Mission Overview
Join a specialized team of orbital experts supporting the Space Operations community across critical space missions. As an Orbital Analyst SME, you will deliver operational support, advanced orbital modeling, training, and mission planning essential to U.S. Space Force capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide mission expertise in one or more of the Delta8 operational systems: MILSTAR/AEHF Protected, MILSTAR/AEHF Wideband, DSCS/WGS
- Perform precise orbit estimation, data processing, and satellite maneuver planning
- Provide support for Launch and Early Orbit (L&EO), anomaly resolution, and disposal ops
- Conduct Conjunction Assessment Risk Analysis (CARA) and generate collision avoidance recommendations
- Create and maintain orbital scripts, tools, and databases tailored to unit missions
- Lead technical reviews of orbital products for accuracy and completeness
- Train government personnel in orbital theory, OA procedures, and software use
- Deliver contingency support during operational surges, exercises, and crisis situations
- Maintain full proficiency on Master Task Lists (MTLs) and Position Training Standards (PTS)
Training & Development
- Develop and deliver tailored orbital training materials
- Evaluate trainee progress and support certification processes
- Provide supplemental and recurring training aligned with evolving mission needs
- Maintain training records for government and contractor personnel
Required Qualifications
- Education or Experience:
- Junior Orbital Analyst: 4-year degree in Aerospace, Astrophysics, Astronomy, or related field
- Mid-level Orbital Analyst: 4-year degree in a relevant field and 6+ years of experience
- Senior Orbital Analyst: 4-year degree in a relevant field and 12+ years of experience
- All levels: Years of experience credit will be given for advanced degrees. 4+ years of additional OA experience are acceptable in lieu of degree requirements
- Technical Expertise: Advanced mathematical skills (Algebra, Calculus, Statistics, Physics); familiarity with STK, FreeFlyer, ODTK preferred
- Instructional Skills: 2+ years experience in adult learning or professional instruction
- Software Proficiency: Excel (advanced), Outlook; CCS-C familiarity desirable
- Security: Current TS/SCI clearance required
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen
Travel & Relocation
- Occasional TDY travel required for exercises, meetings, or support at backup facility
- On-call availability 24/7 for critical mission support; on-site response times within 90 minutes if needed
- Ability to support relocation and continuity during mission transfers
Deliverables & Reporting
- Prepare monthly activity reports, technical studies, and training materials
- Maintain proficiency documentation and orbital safety analysis products
- Contribute to transition planning and exercise readiness deliverables
Preferred Attributes
- Advanced degree or 6+ years orbital analysis experience
- Experience teaching orbital dynamics concepts
- Clear, effective communicator comfortable briefing diverse teams
- Proven track record in technical accuracy and operational excellence

- Junior OA: $85,000 - $125,000
- Mid-Level OA: $125,000 - $155,000
- Senior OA: $155,000 - $185,000
