Omitron is seeking a Java Software Developer - Mid in Alexandria, VA. Break into the amazing world of satellites. This software engineering position is a mid-level position creating the next generation of satellite spaceflight safety systems. Our senior-level programmers will lead teams of mid-level and junior developers designing and coding software that protects satellites from various hazards in space. Programmers will be taught the technical complexities and processes in supporting multiple satellite constellations at the peak of U.S. satellite technology, and work to modify code to allow for microservice transactions and scalability. This software will support all phases of satellite life cycle from development, launch, operations, anomaly troubleshooting, passivation, and reentry. Programmers will team with senior scientists, mid-level engineers, and partner organizations to develop their skills and build them into members of the best spaceflight safety operations team.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Strong understanding of Java and object-oriented programming principles.
  • Basic knowledge of database systems (SQL and/or NoSQL) and data modeling.
  • Review, package, and update software to screen satellite orbits for hazards.
  • Interface with multiple teammates to develop applications to provide data to a scalable cloud service platform.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Learn space operations and how the code supports satellite constellations and operations.
  • Support and plan Agile sprints to break software development tasks into logical and efficient software packages supporting a wide variety of satellite safety tasks.
  • Work with advanced analysts and system tier support to create procedures in support of ongoing operations.
  • Prepare and give briefings to mid and senior-level management on program increments supporting satellite and space-related activities
  • Evaluate incoming scientific data for reasonableness.
  • Be adaptable to changing priorities in an operations environment.
  • Work is 100% on-site and cannot be accomplished remotely.
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • US Citizenship required
  • Security Clearance: Top Secret / SCI security clearance with a willingness to take a CI Polygraph required
  • Education: Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience in software engineering or software development with Java
 
Desired Qualifications:
  • Oracle Java Certification (or equivalent)
  • Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (or equivalent)
  • Red Hat Linux experience
  • Experience with development tools such as Git, Maven, and Jenkins
  • Familiarity with web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and AJAX.
  • Windows experience
  • Strong skill set with Jira
  • Strong skill set with Confluence
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) certification or experience
  • Experience serving government customers

Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this role is $139,000 to $197,000, depending on relevant experience, location, and other factors.
