Omitron, Inc. is seeking a Mid-to-Senior Software Engineer to serve as the Technical Lead for Cross Domain Solution (CDS) data schema development supporting the MASCCOT program in our Colorado Springs, CO office.
This role provides architectural leadership for schema-driven data transformation enabling secure cross-domain transfer across operational networks. The selected candidate will own the design, validation, and lifecycle management of DFDL schemas supporting 14 mission-critical message sets used within the CROWN/SPARTAN environment.
This is a hands-on engineering role with defined technical leadership responsibility over a small CDS-focused development team.

Responsibilities:
CDS Data Schema Architecture & Implementation
  • Own the technical architecture and lifecycle of schema-driven data transformation supporting CDS integration.
  • Design, implement, and validate DFDL schemas for 14 operational message formats.
  • Establish schema design standards, naming conventions, repository structure, and version control strategy.
  • Translate Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and message specifications into enforceable, testable schema implementations.
  • Define and implement automated conformance, regression, and integration testing workflows.
  • Ensure schema implementations meet operational, performance, and compliance requirements.
  • Provide hands-on development support while mentoring engineers contributing to the CDS workstream.
  • Coordinate with cybersecurity and RMF stakeholders to support accreditation, testing, and deployment readiness.
  • Drive long-term maintainability, consistency, and quality across the CDS schema codebase.
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • US Citizenship required
  • Security Clearance: None required, but candidates must be eligible to obtain a US Government security clearance.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field
  • Experience: 6+ years of professional software engineering experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
    • Demonstrated experience leading a technical workstream or mentoring a small engineering team.
    • Strong experience working with structured or schema-driven data formats (e.g., XML, JSON, fixed-width, delimited, or binary encodings).
    • Experience implementing data validation, parsing, or serialization frameworks.
    • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Java, C++, or similar).
    • Experience using Git-based workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
    • Experience designing and maintaining automated test suites (unit, integration, regression).
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in an Agile development environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting Cross Domain Solutions (CDS) or secure data transport systems.
  • Experience working with DFDL or other schema-driven transformation technologies.
  • Familiarity with accreditation processes and RMF-related engineering support.
  • Experience translating formal specifications or ICDs into production-quality software implementations.
  • Experience working in defense, aerospace, or space operations software environments.
  • Familiarity with GitLab and Atlassian toolsets (JIRA, Confluence).
  • Current DoD Security Clearance is a plus. 

Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this role is $130,000 to $180,000, depending on relevant experience, location, and other factors.
