Omitron is seeking a Junior/Mid-Level Software Engineer to support the design, development, and delivery of software systems for Cross Domain Solution (CDS) data transformation within the CROWN program in Colorado Springs, CO. In this role, you will contribute to the implementation of data processing, validation, and integration capabilities supporting secure data exchange across mission systems.
You will work closely with senior engineers and technical leads to implement data transformation logic, develop validation workflows, and build reliable software components that support mission-critical data pipelines. These systems require a high degree of correctness and reliability due to their role in secure data exchange across operational environments. This role focuses on backend development, structured data processing, and developing maintainable, testable software within a collaborative engineering team.
This position supports a flexible work environment. Remote work may be considered for highly qualified candidates based on program needs. Otherwise, this role operates in a hybrid model with periodic in-office presence in Colorado Springs to support integration, testing, and team collaboration.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop, test, and maintain software components supporting data transformation and cross-domain data processing
  • Implement features and enhancements under the guidance of senior engineers and technical leads
  • Write and execute unit tests to validate functionality and ensure software quality
  • Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback to improve code quality and maintainability
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve software defects and data/integration issues
  • Collaborate with engineers, test teams, and DevOps personnel to integrate and deploy software components
  • Contribute to technical documentation, including interface definitions and design notes
  • Support integration, testing, and deployment activities in development and operational environments
  • Participate in iterative or hybrid development cycles, including planning, standups, and retrospectives as appropriate
  • Continuously develop technical skills and apply feedback to improve performance and code quality
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • US Citizenship required
  • Security Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Experience: 0–3 years of professional software development experience (internships and academic projects considered)
    • Foundational knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, C++, or similar)
    • Understanding of core software development concepts, including version control, debugging, and testing
    • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn in a collaborative environment
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
    • Demonstrated ability to work through technical problems using debugging, testing, or coursework/project experience
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Internship or co-op experience in a software development environment
  • Familiarity with Git or other version control systems
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, containerization, or cloud-based development environments
  • Experience working with structured or semi-structured data (e.g., JSON, XML, XSD, DFDL, or similar)
  • Interest or background in aerospace, defense, or government software applications
  • Experience with scripting or automation tasks
  • Exposure to Agile or hybrid development workflows
 
Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this role is $85,000 to $115,000, depending on relevant experience, location, and other factors.
