Omitron is seeking an experienced Software Engineer with strong Python development experience to join the SOLACE program in Colorado Springs, CO. The successful candidate will contribute to the modernization of mission-critical Space Domain Awareness (SDA) command-and-control software supporting operational spaceflight safety and decision-making.
The systems developed under SOLACE process high-accuracy orbital data and support mission-critical workflows used across government and partner organizations, with downstream applications in broader space operations environments.
This role focuses on backend development, API design, and improving software quality across a growing codebase. The ideal candidate will be comfortable reviewing and refining software designs, implementing maintainable backend services, and working closely with algorithm developers to integrate computational capabilities into operational systems.
This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in modernizing legacy mission software while driving improvements in code quality, architecture, and engineering practices. The role operates in a hybrid work environment, with employees working remotely much of the time while maintaining an in-office presence in Colorado Springs approximately 1–2 days per week to support collaboration and program needs.


Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain Python-based backend services and APIs supporting SDA applications.
  • Review software implementations and provide technical feedback to ensure adherence to architectural vision, coding standards, and maintainability goals.
  • Collaborate with algorithm engineers to design clean interfaces between computational libraries and application services.
  • Modernize legacy software workflows into modular, maintainable components.
  • Participate in and influence technical design discussions and help refine implementation approaches for new software capabilities.
  • Implement and improve automated testing, debugging, and performance validation efforts.
  • Work across software, systems, and program teams to translate technical requirements into reliable implementations
  • Document software designs, interfaces, and technical approaches to support long-term maintainability and team collaboration.
Minimum Requirements:
  • US Citizenship required
  • Security Clearance Required: None, but candidates must be willing to be submitted for a US Government security clearance
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • Experience: 4+ years of professional software development experience
  • Strong proficiency in Python for backend or application development
  • Experience developing APIs or backend services
  • Experience writing maintainable, testable software and participating in code reviews
  • Familiarity with Git-based development workflows
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
  • Experience evaluating software designs and providing constructive technical feedback
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience designing RESTful APIs or service-oriented architectures
  • Experience integrating computational or analytical algorithms into software systems
  • Experience modernizing or refactoring legacy software systems
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker
  • Experience supporting aerospace, space operations, or defense software programs
  • Experience working in Agile development environments
  • Experience working with or improving poorly structured or legacy codebases
Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this role is $135,000 to $165,000, depending on relevant experience, location, and other factors.
